There is a lot of confusion these days due to the covid-19 coronavirus pandemic. Today we want to discuss what to do when someone dies from covid19 in your home or in a family members home. This is unfortunately becoming much more common and way under reported. We will take you through the three steps to do to ensure safety compliance and to keep your family safe. Although you may not have dealt with a death yet at your home, you will want to read this and have the information handy in case the day should arise. We hope it doesn’t but by doing these things you will make sure the rest of the family stays healthy (or a much better chance of it).

First, if the dead body is discovered at a family member’s home for no known cause it is important to presume that it was covid. This is in no way to cause panic, there is enough of that out here in the world. If there is no wound the most logical reason for death until proven otherwise by autopsy or testing is covid. Remember this article is to help us prevent more pain and misery. They very well could have died from a heart attack, but they also could have died from a stroke caused by covid. So as the saying goes, it is better to be safer than sorry. Because we are assuming covid the next step is to remove yourself from the home without touching anything or removing anything from the home. It may be infected and you do not want further contamination.

Second, call the county coroner or medical examiner. The medical examiner’s office or county coroner are who will remove the dead body. Once they are called it is important to warn them of what you know about the situation. They will most likely come to the home with a Police officer who will investigate if there is any signs of foul play. The dead body of your relative will then be placed in a body bag and taken out of the home on a stretcher. In many cases depending on how long the dead body was in the home some body fluids and blood and inside parts may have decomposed into the surroundings where he or she lay.

Third, now that the dead body is removed you will still have to deal with the decontamination of the home. To do this you will need to contact a crime scene cleanup or biohazard cleaning company. They will not only clean the blood and body fluids, but they can also sanitize the home for covid-19. This service is called a bio-wash. At the time of this article we are only familiar with one crime scene cleanup company that has covid-19 compliance wash. To reach them you will want to call 1–888–477–0015 and ask for a crime scene cleaner in your city to help with cleaning a home.

By doing these steps you can help prevent the spread of covid after someone dies, and save lives, including yous. We hope you found this article helpful.
